Chicago Mayor Establishes Black Reparations Task Force
$500K budget to study reparations. Meanwhile $500 million for illegal alien migrants.
Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago signed an executive order to establish a Black Reparations Task Force.
As a Black man, and as the leader of a major U.S. city, I have a responsibility to set the tone on how we rectify decades of neglect. Today's Executive Order on the Black Reparations Agenda is a pledge to confront Chicago's legacy of inequity, Mayor Johnson wrote on X.
The announcement follows Johnson's $500,000 investment in the city's 2024 budget to study reparations. The task force will examine policies that have harmed Black Chicagoans since slavery and make recommendations for addressing these issues.
While the move has been supported by some as a step towards addressing historical injustices, others have pointed out the stark contrast in the budget of $500,000 allocated for this study and the $500 million the city has budgeted on housing and other services for illegal alien migrants.
The Black community in Chicago has long faced issues of economic disparity, limited access to quality education, and a lack of affordable housing. For years, they have been advocating for more investment and support from the city to address these concerns.
The Mayor seemingly admits in his own statement Black residents have suffered “decades of neglect.” Why not invest 500 million in the Black community?
Black residents have expressed their desire for reparations in various forms, including cash, free education, healthcare, and support for home and land ownership.
